Michael grew up in Blantyre, the birthplace of David Livingstone, the famous explorer. Michael had the same sense of adventure.
Coming from a military family and hearing tales from both his Grandfathers and the heroic story of his Great uncle who was tragically killed in Operation market garden. Michael decided to join the Army as a 16 year old and pursue his own Military career.
Michael joined the KOSB (King’s Own Scottish Borderers) and later the Royal regiment of Scotland, where he found his passion for surveillance and Reconnaissance. He served in Northern Ireland with a close observation platoon and later the Recce platoon and the Divisional surveillance company conducting strike operations in Iraq.
Michael served for a total of 15 years in the British Army where he conducted operations all over the world including Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. Whilst on an operation against the Taliban, Michael suffered life changing injuries that would eventually end his career.
Michael was formally recognised for his service to his country by Her Majesty, the Queen and the US Pentagon.
He currenyly works with high school pupils where he teaches them resilience, team work, confidence and mental health.
