Award-winning speaker, leadership and management expert
Michelle Howard takes the stage where leadership and marketing intersect, bringing a perspective that is rare, research-driven, and immediately actionable.
With over 30 years of experience across the professional, private, and public sectors, Michelle is an award-winning speaker, leadership and management expert, Chartered Marketer, consultant, and trainer. She is identified on the inaugural She Inspires Impact Leaders List 2026, winner of the global She Inspires Women in Business, One Woman Powerhouse Award 2025, and a 2024 Agent of Change finalist. Her career has been defined not by following conventional paths, but by challenging them.
Michelle began her career as one of the first Chartered Marketer-accredited Marketing Managers in a Legal 500 law firm, before moving into the public sector to lead strategic and transformational change. Despite being non-teaching staff, she earned the National Professional Qualification for Headship, supporting the redevelopment of a struggling school and contributing to its recognition as a pilot for the Academy Model in Education. She then united the NHS, local government, education, and sports sectors to deliver a nationally recognised health project, winning the Guardian Healthcare Innovation Award for Partnership Innovation. At a time when the contribution of support staff was largely overlooked, Michelle was among the first to champion their role as central to improvement. It was ground-breaking practice then. In most organisations, it still is.
With multiple qualifications at degree level and above, Michelle's academic commitment is matched only by the recognition her work has earned in practice. Her outstanding contribution to the educational sector led to her being approached by a prestigious Russell Group University to train and coach senior leaders, the moment that marked the beginning of a career inspiring others to achieve more than they thought possible.
Her MBA with Distinction and academic background anchors her keynote work in rigorous research. Her 14 key findings on leveraging intrinsic motivation in employees form the foundation of a keynote that is provoking new thinking in boardrooms, conference stages, and leadership programmes across the UK and beyond.
Today, Michelle works with C-suite executives, directors, partners, and founders who share a common frustration: capable people, yet inconsistent performance and low ownership. Her message is clear and compelling. Organisations do not drive performance through control. They unlock it through people who choose to perform.
She challenges the passive brand ambassador model and advocates instead for an approach rooted in intrinsic motivation and individual agency. When motivation is truly leveraged, organisations build strong, authentic brands and have happier teams.
Michelle is co-founder of the Next Gen Partner Alliance, a community developing the next generation of legal sector leaders. She contributes to The Law Society, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and speaks for numerous organisations. She is a leadership podcast host.
Warm, direct, and disarmingly honest, Michelle does not just inform her audiences. She shifts how they think, and brings them to question how they lead.
Beyond the Stage
Outside of work, Michelle is as curious and adventurous as the leaders she inspires. A forager, foodie, yoga practitioner, music lover and maker of her own elderflower champagne, she finds her grounding in nature and the seasons. She has been known to not shy away from challenge, has completed a skydive, travels widely and with purpose, and shares her home with two cats who, she freely admits, she works largely to support. Michelle is also the founder of Heart2Heart, a charity established in memory of her jazz musician father, through which she installed 17 defibrillators across her local community, a legacy she is quietly and justifiably proud of.
What the Audience Can Expect
Michelle's keynotes are built around a single, provocative question and the research, stories, and lived experience to answer it with authority. Her style is warm, direct, and disarmingly honest. She connects, challenges, and reframes, leaving audiences with fresh thinking they did not arrive with and practical insight they can use the very next day.
Her presentations are research-driven but never dry, personal and always shaped around the audience in the room. People leave feeling seen, energised, and equipped, and most leave with at least one idea that will challenge their thinking.
If you want your audience to think differently about leadership, motivation, and the people around them, Michelle is the speaker for that moment.
Presentation Approach
Michelle is known for her warmth, her directness, and her ability to bring new thinking and make it feel immediately accessible. She takes her audience on a journey, weaving together original research, real-world experience, and stories that land with honesty and warmth.
Her sessions are highly engaging and practical. She invites reflection without making it uncomfortable, challenges assumptions without losing the room, and always ensures people leave with something tangible to take back to their teams. Audiences consistently describe her as inspiring, grounded, and refreshingly real.
